who is the worst player to ever have won the wsop main event?

not trying to take anything away from anyone who has won the event, but it's pretty evident that some players who won have done nothing over the long run...my personal vote goes to robert varkonyi, but chris moneymaker is obviously right there with him, hal fowler from the 1970s was pretty bad also, and jamie gold is nearing that list as he's done next to nothing since winning the wsop...what do you guys think?

Greg Raymer is my answer, the fossil man has also been pretty non existant in most of the TV shows I've been watching.

Plus whoever the youngest WSOP champion was has been nowhere to be found.

I have to disagree with the previous poster, as Phil Helmuth, the youngest WSOP main event champion, occasionally shows up at tournaments and on TV. I personally think Jamie Gold is a flash in the pan. You watch the 2006 main event and he was dominated many, many times but always hit his outs. He annoys the crap out of me though, so I might be a little biased. I think Moneymaker might be the worst, he won the main event and then did NOTHING. He tried his hand at a couple more tournaments and got annihilated. If it weren't for his endorsement deals nobody would even remember his name. And that's a tough one to forget.

Hands down, Jaime Gold, what a lucky SOB. He was so blessed with great cards, How about a little humility, wait, that would require him to shut up, a common courtesy at most table when a guy is working through a bet, what a POS. I was so sad to hear he lost his Bodog sponsorship deal before he was even paid his WSOP winnings. Wait you didn't hear, Gold sold a piece of his winnings, and then refused to make a promise of payment before receiving his payment. The WSOP refused to pay until the punk gave in, he did so only after realizing he was losing in court. We all pray for karma in poker, for so many reasons, he is just one more!

I would have to say that it is a tie between Gold and Moneymaker for sure. The guy who said that Raymer is the worst one to every win the main event could not be more wrong. Raymer has made three other final table in the w.s.o.p since winning the main event, as well as a couple of cashes in the w.p.t. He is a good player, not a great player, but good. But Gold got so lucky to win last year, some of the calls he made were just nuts, the one hand that stands out is when he called Allen Cunningham's all-in with only K-J, and Allen had two tens in the hole, this was a super loose call he made. He was very aggresive, but he played loose as can be. Also Moneymaker got lucky and he played well, but since the w.s.o.p he has done nothing. But you also have to take into account that 99.999% of us will never get a main event win, so you have to tip your cap to them not matter if they are donkeys or not.
