What the most basic strategies to follow when playing Texas Hold-em?

I play online a lot and do well there. I went to an actual poker night recently and lost big. Showed me that I have a lot to learn. I'd like to find a crash course somewhere on it. Links to websites would be helpful too. Thanks!

It's about how other players perceive you. If you just won a hand through good play, the players who say "nice hand" are the ones who now respect you. They will more likely fold to your bluff if you play it right. The trick is to play the hand exactly the same way you played the other winning hand. Give it the "here we go again" act.

But the best thing to do is practice, practice, practice. Play online so you will not lose money while you're still practicing. I've been playing at http://www.blindhit.com/ for a long time and I'm enjoying it. I also learned from the articles on tips and advices there.

Texas Hold'em is the most popular form of poker. It is widely considered to have the most strategy of all poker games, yet the rules are quite simple. Here http://www.jokeronlinecasino.com/texas-holdem-poker-tips.html you can get lot of tips on Texas Hold’em. The most importantly you should always keep on changing your tactics while playing this game if you have a weak hand and want to still persist on with the game. This way when the new game starts up your opponents will be unaware of your tactics and thus will help you in winning.

You've described a situation and event so unlikely as to identify you as a person with abysmal luck or more likely, a financial connection to an online casino, intending to promote online gambling and providing an opportunity for clones to name 'trustworthy' online casinos.

The best basic strategy for any game is to listen to your own brain. Playing in an environment where all the other players wear masks, where the deck are hidden and the shuffles are all imagination isn't good strategy. It also isn't listening to your brain.

So now you have found out that live play is much different from online play, lol. And yes it certainly is. Most likely, since you have mostly been an internet player, you may have some "tells" that show up in live games and the more astute experienced players pick up on this. It is pretty easy to spot the new players at live tournies, and the agressive players will go after them.

The best strategy is to play a tight agressive game, and play with confidence.

Here is a link to a page full of free Texas Holdem strategy, tips and advice that may help you.

As you continue to play liver poker, stay at the small stakes games and gain some experience that way, and be sure to observe every player at the table, Try to guess if they are experienced or new, skilled or still learning, and tight or loose. That way you will begin to learn how to read the other players. And be sure to understand what your "tells" may be and work to eliminate the. Just wearing sunglasses and a hat is not enough.

Good luck!

Basic strategies are somehow similar for all kind of player. The most being, don't just bluff for bluffing sake and don't play drunk. The one specialty about this game is that it is a vast game and the more you play, the more you learn.
Always go in with the right attitude, pick the right game and amount(although it comes with experience) and just remember, reading players will take you to places.

I prefer real live poker then online because you have the added advantage of being able to read people to give you an indication of you hand.

Strategy 1: Practice your poker face.

I'm not kidding, you need to learn to keep a straight face when you have good cards, bad cards, and cards. Even small facial expressions are tell-tale signs of the quality of hand you have and advanced real/live players will be able to pick up on this.

Strategy 2: Throw your odds out the window.

Online poker is seriously odds driven. You have your pretty little odds calculator out and are madly entering every pocket pair and flop you get and it spits out a percentage and how much to bet. Real live poker isn't like this. Unless you are a mathematician maniac you won't be able to calculate all this. Sure you can learn the general ones like pairs, open ended straights, etc etc but for the most part you can't rely on pure odds/maths to tell you how to win.

Strategy 3: Commit to learning.

Poker, like anything, needs to be learned, practice and _eventually_ mastered. You won't be great first time and won't become a pro overnight. Obviosuly you've had your first time and it didn't go to well. Don't give up. Don't stop. Learn, practice and learn some more. You will get better. Commit to continual education. Seek out poker sites, just do google searches, and read and learn anything you can. Join forums and ask questions and the answers will come.

Just go back to playing online. If not then read about poker tells. If you play with friends maybe one of them can video you as you play. Play within your means, meaning play the lowest limits when you start playing. You'll need to gain experience playing live poker. And when you read those stories in those poker magazines about online players making it big in live poker what they don't write about is the thousands of us who tried and lost doing the same. There is no crash course unless you're friends with some big name pro whose willing to coach you. You just got to study and keep grinding it out. Oh, and get a job unless you already have one because you can't play and gain that experience without the cash to fund it.
