What is your best poker strategy?

Going to Atlantic City this weekend with some friends, we're all I'd say slighty above average but it's always good to hear new tips. So what is your best strategy either overall or in certain hand situations?

If I only had to pick one tip, it would be this: Don't be in love with your starting cards. Whether it's your first 3 cards in 7-card stud, or your 2 hole cards in Hold 'em, make sure they are high-quality if you're going to play that hand. If in doubt, throw them out! 75% of poker is patience.

Switch up your play frequently and make adjustments to the table...if you play too tight there often people who will instantly pick up on this and start trying to push you around and steal pots with large bets. Wait for your chance to trap and punish the aggressive players.

Play tight agressive and be patient at first!

There are some very good players in AC, and they can size up a player in a few hands. Change up a lot, and send out obvious false tells whenever you can, after a bit of that you will have them wondering, then loosen up. Don't be afraid to use a good strong semi-bluff, and remember that most players do NOT bluff a lot.

Here is a link to some more strategy that may help you out. http://www.thedoverpro.com/poker.htm

Good luck!

I cant share anything that is typical, since there are numerous decisons to be made. For instance, if I have JJ, I will play it differently depending on my position, my chip stack, who is also in the pot, their chip stack, who else has to get in and their chip stack.

If you are not a good player, try and stick with the best hands, and make sure you raise, that way you have somewhat of an idea what someone could have when they call. If they bet first after your raise, re-raise, no matter what you have and if you hit something. If they call or re-raise, you are probably beat. The reason you do this, is because you will be seen as a tight player, and if you bet or raise, they will assume you have something. Some will bet first to try and steal the pot from you especially if all the cards are low after you put in a raise.

If you get a monster hand, slow play it, assuming you are still only playing the top hands.

Be patient, too many players get frustrated getting bad cards and when they finally get two good cards, they dont hit and someone has you beat.

Good luck

depends on the casino

borgata tends to be very aggressive. play ultra tight and be super agressive when you have the nuts and you probably get paid off

trop tends to be much tighter. you can play bully but if you get reraised tend to fold

really depends where you play

hope that helps
