Should I start playing poker for a living?

I have been a very successful on-line poker player for the last three years. I play Multi Table Tournaments exclusively on Full Tilt and it has been very profitable. I currently HATE my "real full time job", however, the security of a "real job" has kept me there. I'd like to hear some stories from people with the background and experience please.

It may seem like a good idea at first but realistically..in the long-term the stress and worries will be too much to carry.
Despite how successful you are at poker now, the income will never be as steady as a real full time job.
My advice is to KEEP the security of your job as boring as it may be..until you come across something that is more enjoyable/profitable
all the while keeping online poker as a "side business" or hobby.

Rule of thumb that I've heard people say is this - Wait until you've built up a half-year's living expenses in the bank. If you could go for 1/2-year without any additional money just because of the amount you've accumulated in the bank due to your poker winnings, then you're ready to quit your full-time job. Any earlier than that and you're just asking for a catastrophe.

If you can't save up the equivalent of 6 months living expenses in addition to your bankroll playing part time then you shouldn't give it a shot or variance will leave you with no income and you'll be screwed. You should then set a limit ie. if you lose that bankroll you are done and go back to your other job - depending on the style of your job you may be able to get a form of unpaid leave for a while so you still get the security if it doesn't work out. If you do decide to quit make sure it's on good terms. There's no sense burning bridges without a contingency plan.

When you win at least a years worth of your salary, then you can try to earn from online poker, online poker earnings are not stable, and there will be times when you need some cash to fall back on..
