Online Poker, Bankroll management, shortstack play?

I play online poker. I play shortstacked. Basically, I'll sit at a table with the table minimum. This equates to about 5% of my bankroll. If I reach 9% of my bankroll at the table I leave and go to a new table with roughly 5%. Now, of course these figures vary as I grind one level until I have the bankroll for the next level, but these are my guidelines.

Now, My question is, 5% in play is not too bad for bankroll management, but I'm playing levels above recomendations since I play severly short stacked. Am I OK with this or am I destined to go broke?

You are going to go broke. You should not be playing short stacked, if you have to do that to preserve your bankroll you will not play correctly at the table. Leaving a profitable table because you have too much on the table is especially a bad idea because it keeps you from exploiting weak tables.

http://www.ultimatepokerbankroll.com/us_players_guides/preserving_your_bankroll_guide.html is a really good guide to things players should do to preserve their bankrolls and covers the basics really well.

you tell me....you're up against me with kk. i bluff all in and a hundred percent of my stack to push your measly 9% stack around....i made a mistake and got caught bluffing....or did i send a huge message that i am a maniac....but really i play tight aggressive.. the big loser is the guy who won 10% of my stack instead of 100% of it....and why would you want to leave a table you are winning at....

Actually myself when i deposit $300, i usually sat a table with $100.
$50-$1 NL table, So i play about 1 hour if i am up i go to $1-$2 table.

its actually all depends on your self confidence, if you feel good you can sit with your 20% bankroll, and if you lose then go lower. Well i ma not that good player, i win sometimes i lose. but if you average make $100 per day then you are good at it. and you should stick with it, do not go big blind you might lose a lot or may be win a lot too.

When people talk about bankroll management, they usually are trying to explain the absolute ideal situation to put yourself in.

Your approach may not be the best possibly strategy you can have, but if you are a better short stacked player, and tend to have trouble when your stack gets bigger, then that can work just fine.

If you can get to that 9% about 60% of the time you sit at the table you can probably grind up a profit long term. With 20 buy ins a remote chance of going broke exists due to variance but almost always, if you can win your game 60% of the time, you will not go broke with 20 buy ins.

Seriously though, cash games are tough to beat with short stack strategy. With your strategy, you would be better off playing one table sit n go tournaments provided you have learned the appropriate strategies which are substantially different from cash game strategy.

If you must play the cash games however, I would recommend buying in for at least 100 big blinds. Using your 5% strategy, you would need 2000 big blinds as a bankroll. These larger buyins will give you time to wait for some really fat hands that you can profit from. If you sit with a short stack, you will have less options at your disposal than the big stacks will.
