Omaha Poker (Hi or Hi/Lo) as a living? i.e. Profitable?

First of all, I would say that I am a winning player at low-limit "brick and mortar" Hold'em games (NL or Limit), so I know that it is possible to make a living off poker. I know a few people who actually play for a living, grinding it out in both NL and Limit Hold'em. I am curious, is there any serious Omaha Hi or Hi/Lo players out there who are making a living or a good profit playing this game? Whether the format be Limit or PL. I'm trying to figure out whether Hold'em is the only poker game out there that is possible to make a living or a good profit off it. I understand it is really hard to find a good Omaha game because it is not as popular. But I do know some places that have Omaha games and I'm trying to see if it's worth my time. Thanks!

Yes, if you're a good player you can make money playing Omaha. Here are a few things to keep in mind though:
Omaha isn't played in as many places. If you do a little research online you can find cities where it is generally a little more popular, like New Orleans.
Omaha (Hi) is very expensive to play. Every time I've played in live games I see pots capped preflop and virtually every other street after, all the time. You'd better be ready to pay a LOT to see flops, be prepared to have a big roll to play through some wild hands, and play only VERY strong hands. It's not a game for the weak.
Obviously you won't make money as fast playing O8, since pots are split. The advantage to O8 is that so few people know how to play it correctly and you can clean up on them. It's also very popular among retirees because they can play it for a long time without losing a lot (they think...) They play like stone cold rocks and will fold to almost any action, especially if there's no lo coming, so you can steal a lot of pots off of them.
So do a little homework to find places where Omaha is popular, or move to Vegas where you can always find some kind of Omaha action.

Yeap, why not if you are a good player and you are confident then yes go ahead. i seen lots of poker player play poker for living. you can do it too but remember know your limit. and play only 6 to 8 hours per day not more than that. And make sure you have a plan for example $200 or $300 per day profit and once you reach that stop playing. and try it next day... always pay attention when you play. do not watch TV, do not talk on phone, do not listen song. good luck

I don't see why it wouldn't be profitable if you can make it profitable. If Omaha fits your style of play better than hold 'em, I'd say give it a go for a while. Give it some time, you can go on good swings for up to months in ANY poker game and it may give you a false sense of security...but there's only one way to find out, and that's to give it a go!

Besides, it's not a BAD thing to know a lot of different styles of poker. If you're on a bad run at hold 'em, switch it over to Omaha for a while and see if you are on a better run with that! Hope this helps.
