Is the ability to recognize others' emotions and hide yours the only important skill in poker?

No no no no, Poker actually takes a lot of skill. Knowing how much to raise, knowing when to call/fold/go all in, knowing how to bluff (correctly), knowing when other people are bluffing, these are all things that take a lot of skill and practice, reading your opponents isn't the only skill.

No, it isn't.

Any considering that on-line you can't even see the other person, and they can't see you... that particular skill's value is reduced significantly

Certainly not the only (or even the most) important skill. Far more valuable is being able to judge the strength of your own hand (both initially and as additional cards come into play) and estimate the strength of your opponent's.
