Is poker at Party Poker more difficult compared to online poker without money, e.g, on Facebook's Zynga Poker?

I've been playing Zynga Poker for a long while and I wonder if facing opponents on online tables at Party Poker with real money is more difficult than there.

Thanks in advance.

I've played poker on both. A lot.

I'd say yes, but not that much. People tend to be a bit more careful with money that doesn't come as easy.

If you've ever played with 1M+ chips on Zynga, that would be about the level of $10 max buy-in real money. People aren't as willing to part with 1M+ play chips easily either. Or round three of the shootout on Zynga poker.

Naturally the higher the stakes, the harder it becomes to win money.

You should see for yourself, actually!

I'd recommend you try what I did! I have a thousand dollars in my bankroll now, and it cost me nothing except 10 minutes to study for and pass a simple quiz:

The reason they provide you free money is they profit off your rake (a small percentage of your winnings). For more information on rake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rake_%28poker%29

New site started up that's great if you want to build an early bankroll as they have 4 freerolls an hour during their beta period. I've built up a roll of $53 so far and hope to kick butt in their $1000 freeroll on New Years Day.

How to you define "more difficult"? Facebook poker is barely poker. With real money, you'll actually be playing poker. It's not even worth comparing.

"more difficult" is probably not the best term to describe the differences free poker and money poker. The game fundamentally stays the same but you'll find that different strategies have a different degree of success.

With free poker players tend to be a lot looser and aggressive. The pots get large and people call ridiculous hands as they don't see consequences to their actions. That last part isn't entirely true however, since many people are actually playing to increase their "level" in the game.

Introducing money introduces the need to play a bit tighter. However, at the lowest most limits in online play you'll still find the same crazy over-aggressive maniacs that frequent the play money tables. As the money goes up you'll see clearer strategies evolve and the players will, as you say, be "more difficult" to beat.

It's all just a matter of strategy and tactics. At the low side of the spectrum (including penny stakes and play money) you really don't have a lot of options if you intend on winning. As the stakes increase there is more opportunity to learn the players and play a more "/refined/" game of poker.

As an aside, free poker is still poker. Competent money players should have no problems adapting and winning a lot of chips at places like Facebook poker. It's all about picking the right strategy for the table you're playing.
