Is it illegal to play online poker if you are under eighteen if you are not playing for real money?

I am 15 and I want to play online poker, but I am never going to play for real money. Is it illegal for me to lie about my age to create an account, such as on pokerstars or other websites, for ONLY play money?

It's not illegal to lie about you age to a poker site. It's not even illegal to play for real money, since there are no laws in the US regulated online poker. If you tell them you are someone else (who is a real person), that is a crime, and if you give them someone else's ID or make a fake ID to try and prove you false age, that is a crime.

Its perfectly fine, as long its for play money, you won't go to jail or be arrested or anything like that, the only instance it becomes trouble is if you deposit and play for real money, the site can confiscate all your money and winnings if they find out your underage..

Yes, it is illegal to lie about your age. It is called FORGERY and is a felony. Be careful because these websites are tracked by cyber police and your IP address could be backtraced to you. This is a minimum of 10 years in a state penitentiary or if you are tried as a minor, 5 years in juvie and 5 years probation. If you think about it, it isn't really worth it.

No, it's not illegal. I didn't even realize you had to be 18 to set up an account on pokerstars.net... but if you do, no one is ever going to care.

Carlos is right. The sites say 18. You're not 18. You shouldn't create an account.

There are other sites that allow you to play under 18. I think "Zynga poker", but I'm not sure.
