Your right.. It is ok to lie about your hand.. It's not ok to tell the truth about it though.. Funny rule about poker. But that's the way it is. That dude got mad because ya smoked him.. Winning poker players get use to this.

BEFORE the showdown you can lie all you want.

When it comes time to show your hand, it is considered poor sportsmanship to feign weakness and then reveal a winning hand. When you do this, it is called "slow rolling". In most poker rooms, you risk getting your ass kicked if you slow roll.

In truth you are not allowed to tell the truth about your hand, but you can lie all day long about what your cards are.

OK some folks are missing the obvious here. He actually said you are "not allowed to lie in poker"???

Obviously this Eric is talking about a 12-year old.

He shouldn't be playing poker at 12 years old. Tell him that you'll play him when he grows up.

there's no rule saying you're not allowed to lie on a poker game - it's part of the game which is to trick your opponent, but then there's also no rule saying that you should believe all that your opponents say

If it's only you and one other person in the hand, you're allowed to say anything you want-- you can lie OR tell the truth. It might not be nice but it's allowed.

But if there's also other people in the hand, then you can't talk about your hand at all, or anyone else' hand.

*Edit*
Him being IN the hand means his hand is live...

Anyone who says you can't lie in poker doesn't know much about poker. Also, Huckleberry is incorrect regarding table talk...if you are no longer involved in the hand, then you are not supposed to comment while it's in play...if you're still live, you can comment. However, in some casinos, you are actually barred from TRUTHFULLY stating what you hold if there are 3 or more players live to prevent collusion.
