Open Poker Questions Bookmark and Share

I want to open my own business and was thinking about opening a poker room, can I do this?

I live in CT and wanted to open my own poker room but am not sure if I can. It would be an actual place where people can come sit and play, not a website. Would I be able to do it?

jonbrown 		Unless you have a gaming license, that would be illegal gambling. You could find yourself in jail, and in serious trouble with the IRS.

jonbrown 		There are several licenses and permits required. If you have never had a business before, I would highly recommend against trying this. Too many headaches to be worth it,especially when it involves gambling. You would need a huge amount of capital in reserve.

Davidov 		The casinos pay CT $250 million a year so that doesn't happen.

fullhouse 		In most states, casinos are either outlawed altogether or relegated to Native American lands. While I don't know about CT specifically, but I believe Foxwoods is located on native lands which suggests that's the case there. In any event, gaming in any state that permits it would be closely regulated by state laws overseen by a gaming commission which would specify limitations on location, games allowed, limits permitted, whether liquor can be served, etc.
