Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

1) FORUMS - Start with Two PLUS Two. This is the oldest and best Poker Forum on the internet. Full of useful information about everything poker related. You can ask any specific question there and get a solid answer.

2) BOOKS - There is an abundance of solid read material. Examples include Doyle Brunson's Super System and Harrington on Holdem. You can purchase through Amazon or most are available on the internet if you look hard enough. Try http://www.thepokerbay.org

3) TRAINING - Card Runners is the training site I recommend. It has thousands of Online Poker Videos targeted at different levels of players including beginners. This is really important it will introduce you to poker strategies and concepts you have never considered up until this point. Highly recommended.

4) BONUSES - Ensure you are playing at a site where you are collecting a SignUp Bonus and Rakeback. This is crucial when starting out because inevitably you will lose at the start and these bonuses help keep you afloat in the interim. Check out http://www.rakebackpower.com for some more info.

5) SITES - Consider carefully the sites you are playing. Big sites like Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker are full of highly competitive players that are professionals. Consider the slightly smaller sites that are weaker and hence a little easier for you to best early in your poker career. Sites like Cake Poker, Doyles Room, Ultimate Bet.

6) SOFTWARE - Consider looking into some of the software avaialable. Holdem Manager is a hand history database, this is the first piece of software you should buy if you are taking poker seriously. They have free trials. Very useful for playing back hands you lost and working out your own mistakes.

7) OTHER WEBSITES - Check out Pro Poker Tools for quick web based equity calculations. Poker listings is a very useful website for finding out about poker resources.

8) TIGHTEN UP. Early on in your career, you should be playing tighter and shorter. It is much harder to make mistakes if you only play the top 12 hands with a stack of 40BB. When you get deeper and start playing marginal hands is where you lose money as a beginner player.

Best of luck.
Sincerely,

RakeBack Power

The best advice I can give is to practice. The more you play the better you will become. It just takes a lot of time to become good at poker. It is a lot more complicated than people first think. It takes awhile to realize that it is actually a skilled game - not just a game where the luckiest person always wins. Here are some articles with some advice sure to help you out:
