How can I become a professional poker player?

I am interested in playing online poker and that to professionally, How should I start? Where can i find detail information. Guess I'm just trying to figure out if there is a place where I can gain more information about wanting to take poker seriously rather than just watching it on TV.

Well, it depends what form of poker you want to play. If you want to play no limit cash games or tournaments, read Dan Harrington's books first. If you want to play limit cash games, read Small Stakes Hold Em. Then you need to formulate a bankroll. There are bankroll building guides like Ultimate Poker Bankroll which will help you turn a little bit of money into a few thousand through bonuses and other kick backs pretty quickly. Then you will have to get rakeback, which pays you part of your rake paid back into your account just for playing.

You should also look into high res, wide screen monitors if you don't have one already. Those make it much easier to play multiple tables at one time. But that is something you can invest in later, since when you are just starting out I would advise just playing one table at a time, then when you are sure you are a winning player, move on to two, then three, then four. You should also look into Poker Tracker which is software that tracks all aspects of your play online. You can get that free through UPB that I mentioned above.

Like most professionals, you have to be more than an expert at your craft, you have to learn the game inside and out.. since you want to be an online pro, you better star by creating an account at an online poker site, build your bankroll and reputation, join tournaments, and win them.. and perhaps next season get a seat at the world series of poker..

There are numerous resources on the internet regarding poker, there are online tutorials, video, e-books, etc.

get a subscription to poker magazines, read lots of high rated poker books, play poker on PKR or FULL TILT, dont play facebook poker and think u can go pro, i play facebook poker just for laughs, thats all its for is for laughs.

on PKR you can play matches for free that win u real money, win enough money to play matchs that will put you in qualifiers to play at WSOP games, you will lose, and you will lose big, if gotten into finals for tickets twice and never spent a penny doing it, cos i done it just like this.

EDIT: oh and dont think this will all happen in the space of a year, it takes time and patience theirs alot that goes on in these games that you wouldnt realise, watch poker after dark as sometimes they hide a players cards giving you a chance to practise working out the persons cards, practise over and over on reading people.

books i highly recommend for live games in real life are books about speed reading people and influeincing people, it does help ALOT.

Over the following months I will be writing a blog geared towards teaching people how to play poker. I think that my blog will be a little different than what you have seen because it will be focused a little more towards how to make money at poker rather than optimal strategy to simply win at poker. But I will also be covering the ABC stuff. I cant guarantee that you will become a pro but I think that you will definitely gain some insight into how the whole 'online poker' system works. check me out and let me know what you think. twitter @rake_monster, email rakemonster@gmail.com or at my facebook group Rakemonster.

Just do the following:
* Buy poker books and read them
* Subscribe to Poker feeds and read them
* Join Poker forums and read/post there
* Play poker during all your spare time, starting with the lowest stakes possible
* Keep accurate records and only advance in stakes when you can consistently show a profit.

Easy peasy.

http://www.pokerstrategy.com/u62WLR - they will start you off with articles and videos that you unlock as you play more, set up an account with rakeback on any of the big sites that offer it and then even give you a starting bankroll of $50 so you don't put your own money at risk.
