Can you give me advice on how to manage my poker bankroll?

I play NL hold em at the casino about 3 or 4 times a week. I recently have been winning consistently, and when I loose I lose minimally and then make it back. I play $100-$300 buy-in, 2,5 blinds. I usually buy in for $300.

So, I have $700 right now and I wants to start playing organized. I want to make a consistent $400 profit a month, so how much of my current $700 should I set aside and how much should I play with?
Thanks!

First of all it's very nice to hear you're winning consistently at the moment but please know that even the best players in the world have to deal with downswings during their poker career. Poker is still a game of short term luck and long term skill. Therefor it's really important to make sure you're using a good bankroll strategy to avoid going broke.

I would advice you to have a MINIMUM of 20 buy-ins for the stakes you're playing at. So if you want to play the $2/$5 stakes (avg buy in $200?) my advice is to have to have a minimum $4000 bankroll.

Below mentioned article might help you ...

PDQ IS RIGHT I WOULD LOVE TO HELP BUT 700 IS NOT A BANK ROLL ITS TO SMALL

IF YOUR PLAY JUST FOR FUN LIKE A WEEKEND PLAYER TAKE HALF OF WINNING OR 1/3 OR ANY GOOD % AND BUY SOME SAVING BOND (NO AM NOT KIDDING AT LEAST YOUR ARE SAVING THIS FOR LATER AND CAN MAKE MONEY ON IT)

TRUE MEANING OF A BANK ROLL = THIS IS THE MONEY YOU INVEST WITH LIKE ANY BUSINESS THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU AND A DAY TRADER IS YOU INVEST ON CARDS HANDS, THIS IS NOT TO BE USE FOR FOOD OR ANY OTHER EXPENSE , THIS IS THE TRUE MEANING OF A BANK ROLL AND ITS HAS TO LAST YOU FOR 6 MONTHS AND YOU DO A QUARTERLY REPORT ON IT TO SEE WHERE YOUR AT. CARD PLAYING IS A BUSINESS TO SOME OF US WE MADE A LIVING ON WE BOUGHT OUR HOUSE PAID FOR CAR AND ALL SHORT OF OTHER THING... TILL YOU UNDERSTAND THIS! JUST PLAY FOR FUN ITS MUCH BETTER

Some folks far more knowledgeable than me will chime in with websites where you can read about Bankroll Management. I would HIGHLY suggest you read these articles.

If by chance nobody chimes in, just do a Google or Yahoo! search for "Poker Bankroll Management". You REALLY need to do this now!

Here is what I can tell you. If you have been playing at 2-5 tables, you are playing WAY above your bankroll.

With a $700 bankroll, a $300 buy-in is almost 43% of your bankroll!!! 10% is what I believe most people suggest. I know it also depends on just how big your bankroll is compared to how long it would take you to "earn" the money back if you ever went broke.

In other words, if you have a job right now, and you could easily earn your $700 bankroll back in a couple weeks, then perhaps you can risk more of your bankroll - perhaps 15% or 20%. NEVER 43%, though!

If your Bankroll is only $700, I would suggest that the BIGGEST table you play on is the 1-2 table with no more than $100 buy-in. (That's around 14% of your bankroll.) Stick to the 1-2 tables until your bankroll reaches $3,000. Then start buying in for $300 at the 2-5 table if you really want. If you dip down lower than $2,400, jump back to the 1-2 tables again until you've built it back up.

***Again - I'm FAR from an expert on Bankroll Management. READ about it from the posts that other people leave you. Search in the Yahoo! Answers for "Bankroll Management". This question has been asked before. Also search Yahoo! and Google.

YOU NEED THIS! $300 is WAY too much of your $700 to risk.

******IMPORTANT****** You are going to get some folks suggesting you'd be better off just playing "on-line" poker. On-line poker is a much tougher game than live casino games. Just remember that!
