Sure, In high low split there is a low hand that can win half the pot and a high hand that can win half the pot. Now there will not always be a low hand in every pot since there has to be 3 cards 8 or lower on the board to have a low, but there will always be a high hand. For example lets say you have A-2-K-9 in your hand, and the board reads 3-4-5-k-Q. So you have the nut low with the ace deuce, and you also have a straight for your high hand using the A-2 in your hand. You can play any 2 cards in your hand to make your low, and any 2 cards in your hand to make your high, this in combined with the 3 board cards you may use makes up your 5 card hand. Now in this game you can get into trouble chasing the low, you want to make both a high and low hand as much as you can. In some spots you may get quartered. for example lets say you have ace high for your high hand, but you do have the nut low. But another guy has the same nut low as you do, but he also has the high hand as well. Here he gets half the pot for the high, then he get half of the low pot for his low, and you are left with only getting 1/4 of the total pot. So even though you did have the low, you still had to chop it with the other nut low as well, so you have lost money on the hand. Its kind of hard to explain but you'll get it after a while good luck.
